Things To Do
Local Spots
Restaurants
We highly recommend Oliver’s Pub & Grill, The Flying Taco Mexican Grill, Shores Sisters Cafe, and Bishop’s Family Restaurant for meals. For coffee, we also recommend The Community Cup and the Madhouse Emporium. Be sure to check their hours, as many businesses in the Northern Tier are closed on Sundays.
Antiquing
Towanda is home to several great antiques malls where we love to spend time hunting for treasures. We specifically recommend the Wysox Vendor Mall, Golden Mile Mercantile, and JoJo’s Sales The Shoppes on 220.
Nature
Several scenic overlooks along Route 6, especially the Marie Antoinette and Wyalusing Rocks Overlooks, offer incredible views down into the Susquehanna Valley. For longer hikes, we recommend the Oh! Susanna trail at Mt Pisgah State Park or exploring Schrader Creek and Bradford Falls in the nearby State Game Lands.
Day Trips
Pennsylvania Grand Canyon
The Pine Creek Gorge, also called the PA Grand Canyon, is absolutely stunning! The first time Beau brought Leesa to visit the Northern Tier, he took her here. The nearby town of Wellsboro has many great lunch spots, like The Roost.
Worlds End State Park
Beau took Leesa to his all-time favorite campground for her first dedicated camping trip! Even if you’re not camping, Worlds End is full of great day hikes. Make sure to stop by Forksville for Big Mike’s Steaks and Hoagies, an incredible cheesesteak spot that makes Leesa’s Philly heart (and stomach) happy!
Grassy Hollow Road
Just outside of the small village of Jamison City, Grassy Hollow Road follows alongside Heberly Run and offers views of multiple waterfalls. It was here, just above Lewis Falls on a cold and snowy day in January, that Beau asked Leesa to spend the rest of our lives together! We highly recommend stopping to eat at the Jamison City Hotel Restaurant!
Corning, NY
Home to Corning Glassworks, Corning has a spectacular glass museum which features a wonderful interactive workshop where you can book a timeslot to make a piece of glass to take home - this was another activity Beau planned for the first weekend he brought Leesa to the Northern Tier. After you’ve seen the museum, we recommend window shopping down Market Street before stopping in at Hand and Foot for a bite to eat.
Owego, NY
We can spend hours wandering around the Early Owego Antique Center, housed in a former department store in the center of town, as well as Bostwick’s, a short drive from the village. Some of our most cherished recent antique acquisitions were found in these spots. Owego is home to many great restaurants and breweries; we specifically recommend the Owego Brewing Company and the Owego Donut and Beer Co.
Ithaca, NY
Ithaca is at the base of Cayuga Lake, one of the eleven famous Finger Lakes of New York. In addition to the scenic views, we love going to Ithaca for the many shops and restaurants it offers. Stop by Ithaca Falls or walk the Cascadilla Gorge Trail, then explore the shops along State Street. Close by are Buffalo Street Books, Beau’s favorite bookstore in town, and Poured Candle Bar, a wine bar / candle making experience Leesa knows well from their second location in Hudson, close to where her parents own a home. Drop by Asia Cuisine for a wonderful dinner to complete the day!
